Main internship project at SAP Experience Center, Den Bosch
For my internship at SAP, I was tasked with something big: create an entirely new client experience from scratch—a digital, narrative-driven, interactive simulation that would be used to engage real SAP clients.
For my internship at SAP, I was tasked with something big: create an entirely new client experience from scratch—a digital, narrative-driven, interactive simulation that would be used to engage real SAP clients.
Concept: Crime, Planning, and the Power of SAP
The experience, titled Oceans Heist, is a playful but strategic take on decision-making and business planning. The premise: the client plays the role of a modern-day “hacker” trying to pull off a bank heist. But success isn’t about chaos—it’s about planning, tools, and collaboration. At each phase of the heist, clients encounter decision points that highlight the value of SAP software and strategic foresight.
The experience was built using HYRO, SAP’s proprietary immersive tool, and unfolds across three main environments: the Basement, where the heist is planned; a Vault, where the result plays out; and live interview videos, where clients choose their fictional criminal teammates.
My Role: Full Design & Build, from Concept to Final Experience
This wasn’t just design—it was world-building, technical puzzle-solving, and production management. I led or co-led nearly every aspect of the experience:
Basement Scene – The Heart of the Experience
This is where most of the customer interaction happens. I designed the room layout, UX flow, and visual assets.
- Designed the scene layout for maximum presenter flow, ensuring clear sightlines and efficient movement—even adjusting for non-touchscreen walls.
- Created trigger-based screen sequencing with motion graphics, flickering lights, and custom-built screens.
- Developed overlapping MP4 layering techniques to combine looping background effects with pausing data feeds—solving key tech limitations in HYRO.
- Added “product choices” and interview segments to shape which ending clients receive.
- Proposed a system of secret presenter triggers to let hosts control which ending plays live—simple but powerful.
Interview Videos – Casting, Filming, Integration
I helped produce a full set of “underworld interviews” with fictional criminals.
- Assisted with scriptwriting, including adding character codenames and tone-of-voice choices.
- Managed props, costumes, and filming logistics (studio booking, lighting tests, text scroller setup).
- Designed the Teams-like video overlays to embed the clips inside the experience, maintaining immersion.
The Bus Scene – Live Action with Props and Coordination
For the intro video, we filmed a heist escape scene using SAP’s own garage and branded van.
- Took charge of on-site prep, blocking off the garage with cones/tape and organizing props (masks, bags, prop weapons).
- Coordinated actors, safety, and live directions on-set.
- Worked closely with the video editor, troubleshooting render size and formatting issues to make sure it integrated properly in HYRO.
Vault Scenes – Multiple Animated Endings
Depending on the client’s choices, the heist ends in one of three ways:
- Success – The vault explodes open, and cash flies.
- Failure – The alarm triggers, and the team gets arrested.
- Betrayal – The vault opens, but it’s empty… someone on the team turned traitor.
I created all three using a mix of official and custom assets:
- Exploding cash animation with careful layering and timing to avoid visual overload.
- Security lighting and sirens, built manually for realism and atmosphere.
- For betrayal, I designed a twist where the traitor hijacks the in-game screen—turning the system itself against the team.
Iteration & Feedback
The experience was refined through multiple internal tests and live pilot sessions with SAP clients.
After initial rollout, I implemented several improvements based on client and presenter feedback:
- Swapped interview clips for diversity
- Replaced one of the “heist products” with a clearer visual
- Added police voiceover for the arrest ending
- Refined the cash animation for sharpness and believability
The Takeaway
This was by far the largest and most ambitious project I’ve worked on—spanning design, storytelling, video production, and technical integration. It taught me how to handle complexity, collaborate across teams, and deliver under pressure.
“People were discussing their choices long after the session ended. That’s how you know an experience works.” — SAP Feedback
I’m proud of how the final experience turned out—and even prouder that it’s being used for real clients in SAP’s Experience Center today.
